| This
work was inspired by the steel "I" beam cross found standing bolt
upright among the ruins of the World Trade Center. It was erected as a monument
and blessed by a Franciscan priest. The photo of this event I saw in the
paper brought to mind Christ's deposition (removal) from the cross.
The Christ in this drawing represents all the victims of the attacks as well as the suffering of Christ himself at man's inhumanity to man. The symbolism of hope inherent to all crucifixion art is the main theme of the piece. Resurrection and redemption will follow the suffering. Fr. Mychal Judge, the fire chaplain who perished on 9/11, is the fallen figure on the left. Each element of the drawing has symbolic meaning. |
